How to Log On to WebCT

Logging on to your WebCT course is very easy. The following instructions will step you through the process.

1. Log on to you Internet Service Provider (more than likely UMass) and Start your Web Browser

2. Either go up to the Address Box or go to File/Open. Type in the UMass WebCT courses URL: https://webct.oit.umass.edu/

3. Click on the link that says Log in to myWebCT.

 

4. Type in your WebCT ID and Password. Be careful to type in the information correctly. WebCT is case sensitive, which means that lower or upper case does matter. Your WebCT ID will be the same as your NetID (formerly OIT Account user name) and will always be all lowercase. Note: If your email address is johndoe@student.umass.edu, your User Name will be johndoe. Your password, again, is the same as your OIT password.

Tip: The login is case sensitive. This means it knows the difference between upper and lower case! If your User ID is jdoe, you cannot enter Jdoe or JDOE.

5. Once you have successfully logged in, you’re myWebCT page will be displayed. MyWebCT is a portal that links you to all of the courses on WebCT that you are currently registered in. You can move between these courses without being required to re-authenticate.

Note: You must have an active an OIT Account (you need to know your NetID and UMAccess password) for your enrollment in any registered course that is using WebCT. If you do not have an active account you will not be enrolled in the WebCT component of your course until you have activated your account. Once your account is active your WebCT enrollment will occur the next business day.

Logging out of WebCT

To log out of WebCT, click on the LOGOUT link, located on WebCT menu bar at the top of every page. This is the most secure way to log out of WebCT. Note: Any bookmark you make within your course will automatically bring you to a 'logon entry' dialog box when used. Once you 'logged in" the bookmark into that course will work without first prompting you for your username and password.

If you close the browser without first logging out of WebCT, use the following guidelines to fully log out of WebCT:

• Fully exit the browser by closing all browser windows. In Netscape, go to the File menu and select Exit. In Internet Explorer, go to the File menu and select Close.
• If any browser windows are open, return to myWebCT, and click Logout.
• Tip: Remember to log out when using computers in a lab or other shared area, otherwise someone else may use your account potentially affecting your grades.

Tip: Always close/exit your browser after using WebCT to prevent others from accessing your course information.

Remembering Your Password

To login to your WebCT courses you must use your OIT username and password (See How to Logon). Be sure to write down your username and password in a secure place and do not share your information with anyone else.
