The Course Homepage

Once you’ve logged on successfully, you will see the Course Homepage. The Homepage is the starting point for all points of access to the course. In the center of the Homepage, a number of icons are available to take you to the various parts of the course.

The sections below describe some of the icons with their titles. Icons may have been changed or not included by your instructor, but the title for the tools should be the same. Your instructor may also choose to include additional icons on the course Homepage.

You can return to the homepage at any time by selecting the "Home" link under the course title in the upper left hand portion of the screen (these links are referred to as "breadcrumbs").

The following is an example of what a course homepage may look like:

WebCT homepage

The Course Homepage will have icons showing the WebCT tools used in the course. Icons on the homepage can link to:

Learning pathway or content pages (learning materials, course notes, module guide)
WebCT communication tools (e-mail, bulletin board, chat)
Tool pages (student support - similar design to a home page)
A URL (links to a page outside the WebCT module)
A single page (assessment, syllabus)

The homepage layout is designed to suit the topic and learning methodology of each course. The number of icons will vary, as will the function of some icons. WebCT and the University of Massachusetts provide a number of different sets of icons for instructors to use, but they may use any icons they choose.
