Technical Requirements

In order to begin using WebCT you will need:

1. A Web browser

3. Keyboarding and computer skills

4. Web browsing skills

If your students are not familiar with Web browsing, emphasize that this is an important prerequisite. This can be especially important with adult learners. If possible, consider having a special class in a computer lab to familiarize your students with your WebCT course and the Web in general.

5. Students must be registered in the course and section through normal UMass registration procedures before they can be entered into a WebCT course.

6. All students MUST also have an OIT Account (you will use your NetID and UMAccess password) in order to be added as a student in a WebCT course.

7. WebCT course access requires the following three pieces of information:

A myWebCT ID – same as NetID (OIT Account User name)
A Password – same as UMAccess password* (for more info on passwords see: http://www.oit.umass.edu/accounts/passwords.html)
A Web address for the UMass WebCT entry page: https://webct.oit.umass.edu/
