Course instructors/designers are assigned a
myWebCT ID and password based on their OIT username
and password.

Course instructors/designers should access their
WebCT courses through myWebCT from the UMass WebCT
entry page using:
https://webct.oit.umass.edu/

Course instructors may request that the WebCT
administrator create additional designers for their
WebCT course(s).

Course instructors need to be the instructor
of record through the Registrars Office in
order for their course student roster information
to be made available to the WebCT administrator.

Course instructors/designers are responsible
for all course content, course functions, student
management and course backups (except for adding
of students to their course handled through
procedures initiated by the WebCT Administrator).

Course instructors/designers have the capability
and responsibility of allowing or denying student
access to their WebCT courses during the semester.

Course instructors should not create student
course accounts nor allow students to create their
own course accounts. All student accounts must be
created by the WebCT administrator.
Shared Designers

Shared designers are established by the WebCT
administrator at the request of the course instructor/designer.

Shared designers have all of the capabilities
as the course instructor/designer. When communicating
using the course email or bulletin board all course
designers (including the instructor will be identified
as the course instructor.

Teaching Assistants
-
Course instructors may request that teaching
assistants be set up for their WebCT course(s).

TAs will have the capability of helping manage
groups of students using the Student Management
tools.

Students
-
Students must be registered in the course and
section through normal UMass
registration procedures before they can be entered
into a WebCT course.

All students MUST also have an OIT account (includes
necessary NetID and UMAccess password) in order
to be added as a student in a WebCT course.

Students will be entered in all of their WebCT
courses using their OIT username and password. Their
myWebCT ID will be their OIT username. Their WebCT
password will be their OIT password.

Special Student Test and Guest Course Accounts

A Special Student testing account will be set
up for each WebCT course. This is to be used by
the Instructor/Designer and Shared Designers for
testing purposes. Occasionally the instructor might
also use this account to allow colleagues temporary
access to their course.

At the start of the semester at the request
of an instructor a guest account can be enabled
for a course. This will provide temporary student
access while students are going through the process
of establishing their own OIT username and getting
formally registered in a course through the Registrar.
OIT Help Desk (Lederle A109)

OIT Help Desk will help students set up their
OIT account (includes necessary NetID and UMAccess
password).

Support for helping students check that they
have a valid OIT account and are using the correct
password for access will also be available at the
Help Desk.
