Differences Between Types of WebCT Accounts

There are 3 different user types that can access a WebCT Course:

• Shared Designer
• Teaching Assistant (T.A.)
• Student

Shared Designer

Privileges: This access level grants the the user with all course design privileges and access to students' records.

Restrictions: Quizzes and submissions to assignments in your course are not recorded in the Student Management Gradebook (only student submissions are recorded).

Teaching Assistant (T.A.)

Privileges: T.A.s have full access to the all of the student records in a course. T.A.s can easily organize their Student Records page by using the 'sort student records' feature so that only their students are shown.

Restrictions: T.A.s do not have access to any of the design functions of a course. Also, like the shared designer, T.A.s only have partial use of the Evaluation Tools.

Student

A WebCT Student does not have any access to the design or course management functions of WebCT, but they do have full use of any tool that a designer makes available to them. They are able to complete and submit quizzes and assignments, and they are able to access their own grades should they be made available in the My Grade tool. They do not have access to the grades of other students.
