Incorporating Library Resources into WebCT and Course Web SitesOn Friday, April 4, 2003 Christine Turner gave a presentation to our WebCT Brown Bag group about how to create links from WebCT to Library resources. Here are some useful items (and links) from that discussion: Creating links directly to library resources http://www.library.umass.edu/instruction/faculty/linkguide.html This page describes the process that makes it possible to send students directly to a specific library record, e-book, online journal, or journal article from a link on a Web page. This page also describes a special code that will provide access to resources that require authentication. Users on the UMass Amherst network or modems will get direct access, while users from outside providers will be asked for their UMAccess username and password. Using E-Reserves for print materials http://ereserves.library.umass.edu/ If you have a printed version of your materials, and no online versionexists, it can be converted and posted on the E-Reserves site in the library. This site gives all the background information and contacts you need to get started. These are also good folks to talk to about copyright and fair use. Finding your Departments Library Liaison http://www.library.umass.edu/reference/contactal.html If you dont already know who your library liaison is, check here to find out. These folks specialize in finding resources specific to your discipline. You can call on them for everything from specific research questions to helping construct a list of resources for your site. Christine also demonstrated how to use WebCT to create a pool of resources (online and otherwise) that can be associated with specific pages of a content module. The documentation for this feature can be found in the online Help within your WebCT course (check the Help Index for Resources and References). Academic Computing WebCT Staff
