I work and write for an alternative, left news and analysis site called Sanhati. My writings are available here.
Vidya Ashram: Towards a People's Knowledge Movement
Since 2005 I am associated with Vidya Ashram, an autonmous collective which is trying to build a people's knowlege movement. See website for more. Check out some videos of interviews I did last year at Sarnath, Varanasi, where Vidya Ashram is based.
Edu-Factory: Conflicts and Transformation of the University
"As was the factory, so is the University..." a few years ago the Edu-Factory collective began as a collection of people interested in the politics of knowledge. The collective has expanded beyond Europe and I am one of its members.
World Peace Congress: Only Connect...
In 2006-2007, along with many other wonderful people, I was involed in organizing an international gathering of scholars, activists, social entrepreneurs, religious figures and so on, with the aim to start a cross-cultural, cross-disciplinary, inter-faith Dialog. The first meeting was in Salt Lake City, Utah. The meetings continue (the most recent one was in Thailand) though I am no longer actively involved. Please visit the official site for more information.
Center for Popular Economics
Since moving to the University of Massachuetts at Amherst, I have
become active in the Amherst-based Center
for Popular Economics.
This is a non-profit, collective of political economists whose
aim is to demystify the Economy and to train activists and others
working towards social and economic justice in various communities
as well as nationally and internationally. The week-long
CPE summer institute is an excellent forum for activists to familiarize
themselves with many important issues and arguments to do with
privatization, IMF and World Bank, poverty and disparity, inflation
and unemployment, environmental economics, race, gender and class
and how they interact in Capitalism and much more. I have co-taught
the institute a couple of times as well as conducted several day-long workshops for CPE.
Here are a some short pieces I have written for CPE:
Do The World's Poor Countries Finance The Rich Ones?- January 2008
Particpatory,
Community-Managed Water Systems - September 2006
Privatization
of Water - April 2006
Association for
India's Development
During my stint at Duke University
I volunteered for the Association
for India's Development, a US-based
non-profit that supports grassroots development projects in India
and has also increasingly become involved with various people's
movements currently active in India (like the Narmada
Bachao Andolan,
the Bhopal Gas Victims Association etc).
Some of my writing from a few years ago when I was still active in AID:
